We had the privilege of interviewing Craig Jacobs, the designer of local brand, Fundudzi. Strong rooted in the South African fashion industry and making waves with his bold atheistic, Craig shares some insight on the future of Duca del Cosma and what we can look forward to in the future.

How long have you been working in the fashion industry?

My background actually isn’t in fashion – I studied sociology and have carved a reputation as a journalist for a range of publications both locally, and internationally, but I wanted to create a platform to tell African stories through design and that’s why I founded Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs in 2004.

What are a few skills that are imperative to being successful in the fashion industry?

A keen eye for details, a strong sense of design and a steely determination to succeed no matter what challenges you face. These are probably the most important skills to arm yourself with. And to always hero the customer.

What do you love most about the South African fashion industry?

I think what makes the South African fashion industry so exciting is the wealth of talent and the diverse cultural influences which we can draw on for inspiration.

What were some of your favourite looks from the designers at the Mens’ Health Menswear Collections 2018?

I liked the diversity of the collections showcased – from the slick suit offerings from Woolworths to the street funk of Kappa.

What inspired/influenced your new summer range?

The collection for Spring Summer 2018/19 is titled Jungle Reverberations, and I drew inspiration from streetwear infused with animal prints and tropical accents.

Any predictions for men’s summer fashion in 2019?

I think Bold sums it up – summer is all about showing the best version of yourself.

Who is your range most suited for?

We call our followers Fundudzi Warriors – they’re proudly African trailblazers.

What are your predictions for Duca del Cosma in the luxury fashion industry?

The feedback from the showing has been incredible – I think that Duca has really set the tone for introducing a golf brand which blends fashion and technology. And, by showing that the kicks can move from the course to the catwalk, there are bound to be a whole lot more interest going forward!

What are your thoughts about Duca del Cosma launching in South Africa?

South Africans appreciate good aesthetics and quality craftsmanship, and I think what Duca del Cosma is introducing to the market is something with an Italian flair which reflects our appetite for newness with an assured sense of style and colour which taps perfectly into our lifestyle.

How do you rate Duca del Cosma compared to other luxury footwear brands?

I think what is exciting is that the brand has put comfort at the heart of each design – too often we follow luxury and fashion brands more for aesthetics than the functionality, whereas what Duca offers is a perfect marriage between on trend design and comfort.

Based on Craig’s insight, to say we’re excited for the summer season is an understatement! Follow Duca del Cosma on Instagram to keep up to date with the latest news from us!
